Punching shear is a phenomenon in flat slabs caused by concentrated support reactions inducing a cone shaped perforation starting from the top surface of the slab. Although generally preceded by flexural failure, punching shear is a brittle failure mode and the risk of progressive collapse requires a higher safety class in structural design. The Punching and Shear Reinforcement is used in reinforced concrete floor slabs that are cast directly onto columns or walls without supporting beams.
The punching shear reinforcement system consists of double headed anchors (B500 ribbed or smooth) with swaged heads. A mounting bar that is secured by tack welds on the anchor heads, connects the individual anchors to the rail. it can have up to 10 anchors, which are preferably used from the top for laying the surface reinforcement. By arranging the individual elements in rows, large areas can be quickly reinforced.
